'Why are there trees I never walk under but large and melodious thoughts descend upon me?' - Walt Whitman
My photographing the trees around Orange, Alamance, and Durham counties has been ongoing since I picked up a camera. I have made return trips to see now old friends in the woods, mostly within an area no more than 25 miles from my home. I find it easy to anthropromorphize a tree. But most often I wind up admiring the quiet, stoic grace they offer. One thing to reccomend them as a subject is they always grow in relation/reaction to one another and the immediate landscape giving them infinite variety.
The photographs that follow are large and medium format film examples.
