Kallitypes
It all begins with the image. Making photographs with a vintage film camera is challenging, but well worth the effort. Then its on to the darkroom to develop the film and get a suitable negative for Kallitype process. The Kallitype process is a mid-19th century printing process. A mixture of silver nitrate and ferric oxalate is brushed on to heavy watercolor paper prior to exposure in UV light. The paper and negative are placed into a contact frame. The whole thing is exposed to UV light via a light box. Getting the exposure just right takes time and effort. The resulting exposure is developed in Sodium Citrate. And then lots of trays for fixing, clearing, and stabilizing the final print.
